Stay tuned for a links page to pictures of various artistic interpretations of Gollum

Hey everyone!

Thanks so much for being so productive in today's class even though you were all sandwiched in like sardines around the stage. Even our lovely lounge ladies on the couch contributed some excellent comments and writing.
For those of you who volunteered to help out tomorrow with the grade 7 day, thanks once again. It's going to be a blast (how can showing off in front of a bunch of freaked out grade 7s not be!) Anyway, on to business. Thank you Leah for pointing out that I didn't include a list of vocab words on the crossword puzzle I gave you. I may enjoy challenging you guys (which I'm sure you're well aware of by now) but not giving any hints on that crossword is just plain ol' mean! So without further ado...here you go:

unbeknown, flummoxed, antiquity, sorrel, bracken, proverb, benighted, marjoram, drear, glade, bannock, palpitating, cleave, shirk, quaff, gnash, uncanny, mutton, scabbard, subterranean

For those of you who did not get their assignments in to me on time today...please turn them in on Friday, anything I receive after that will have marks deducted.

I'm sorry that I didn't get a chance to update the site after last class. As promised here are some cool links to help you better understand our new friend Carl Jung. My apologies that some of these websites are a little on the cosmic, "find your inner light" kind of vain but I guess a lot of new age cosmic types are into Jung.

here are some interesting quotes from Jung.

here is a brief overview of the shadow self in easy to understand English (with a bit of cosmic "use it to fix the problems in your relationships" on the side)

This is a very cool video I found on YouTube. It looks at the lyrics to the song 46+2 by the band Tool (who were very cool when I was in high school...not too sure if you guys have heard of them). There is lots of cool info mixed in with the lyrics of the song to talk about Jung's idea of the shadow self. It moves off topic a bit to also describe the 46+2 title of the song but it is definitely worth watching...too bad I didn't find it in time to show it in class. :(

Here is a picture of Jung

Here's
the wikipedia site for Jung

Last but not least, I highly recommend checking out a very cool book by Canadian author Timothy Findlay called Pilgrim. It is a really good read. It has also been made into an opera called "The Dreamhealer" which will be premiered in Vancouver at the Chan Center at UBC in March. One of the main characters in the novel is Carl Jung himself.

As I said above, stay tuned for pictures of Gollum

P.S - as of yesterday the Vancouver School Board has blocked the ability to check comments or post comments on Blogger sites from any school computer - I know most of you guys check from home anyway. You can still view this page from a school computer for now but you cannot post a comment. If this poses a big problem from anyone please come see me. Unfortunately what the school board decides can be seen from their computers is out of my hands.

Cheers
See you on Friday.
